Travelling to Kyoto and don’t want to battle the crowds? Tired of travelling to the same places as everyone else and don’t know what’s worth your time?

Up-to-date advice you can trust.
I’ve lived in Japan for almost 10 years and so much about Kyoto has changed over the years but most of the information online has not.
While researching for this guide, it became clear to me that around 90% of articles, blogs and social media advice online is recycled, outdated information, written by people that have never actually been there (I knew someone who wrote “itineraries” for locations she’s never visited!) a problem that continues to get worse with the rise of AI. Low effort, click-farm media is often more concerned with virality than they are with a good experience and that’s what I want to change!
I have personally visited every location in this guide so I’m proud to say that all the information is up-to-date, accurate and worth your time.

FAQ
-
Yes! Whether it’s your first or fourth time in Japan, Beyond The Tourist Trail - Kyoto Edition has so much to offer you. If the location doesn’t have much English information, the guide explains everything for you!
-
Not necessarily! While many of Kyoto's best spots are outdoors, they’re not exactly what I’d call 'outdoorsy.' All locations are child-friendly, mostly within the city, with a couple in the countryside—plus plenty of restaurant and food experiences. And of course, knowing me, I couldn’t leave out my favourite swimming spot! 😉
If you’re ready to go on an adventure to the countryside, I recommend my previous travel guide, Beyond The Tourist Trail, which highlights over 100 locations accessible from Tokyo or Osaka.
